Darland High School, Wrexham
As a small but growing school, serving a network of village communities to the north of Wrexham, Darland wants its students to think big and work hard. The school’s newly refurbished fitness suite, located within the sports hall, was to be transformed into an exhilarating hub that would encompass the school’s ethos of ‘Aspire, Apply, Achieve’
The Brief:
CYC was commissioned to remove all the old cardio and strength equipment from the existing gym and create a 14-16 station fitness suite for up to 16 Year 10 and 11 students and staff members. Working within just a 36 m2 space, our challenge was to maximise all available space with the most innovative and inspirational equipment, and incorporate Darland’s embroidered emblem.
The Result:
Firstly, CYC fitted 15 mm Rephouse premium gym flooring tiles for increased durability and protection to the gym floor. We added a versatile 2-panel Training Wall®solution for thrilling vertical fitness workouts, a wall mounted Concept 2 SkiErg and compact Inspire Fitness FT1 functional trainer.
An impressive selection of Gym Gear, Matrix and Precor cardio equipment was selected, along with a range of resistance equipment, free weights and accessories. Custom Darland High School branding was applied to upholstery, weight stack shrouds, mirrors and gym wipes dispenser. For ease of use, each fitness station is numbered 1-14.
Following the official opening on July 1st 2019, Headteacher, Mr Peter Agnew expressed his delight with Darland’s new gym:
We are so impressed with the fitness suite you have created for us here at Darland. From the moment we first met with you to discuss our ideas, you brought your vast experience to bear in creating a facility that reflected our needs. The clear designs you produced enabled us to foresee how the gym would look on completion, and honest advice on fitness machinery allowed us to save a great deal of money. Your installation operatives were polite, efficient and very hardworking, keeping to very tight schedules, and operating within the constraints of a busy school during term-time.
We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Craig Young, a parent at the school and local business owner. CYC Fitness has gone above and beyond to create a facility that exceeded our dreams. Meticulous attention to detail has made the new suite a magnificent place for our students and staff, providing thousands of young people with the opportunities to build their physical confidence and live healthy lives.
